Daniel Crowe – Program Director and Senior Instructor 2
From: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Responsibilities: Dan directs the operations of the Outdoor Pursuits Program, trains outdoor leaders, and teaches a variety of rock, rescue, leadership development and backcountry courses. Dan’s main teaching focus is on the Program’s gateway course – Wilderness Survival.
Background: Dan has been involved in climbing since the early 1990’s, starting in the retail side of the industry before migrating to the competitive side of the sport. He has set routes for the ASCF and coached a successful climbing team, competing at a national level. In the mid 1990’s he began his career as a professional guide in Central Oregon. Seeing the need for guided trips in Western Oregon, he created his own guiding company, “Boulderdash” based out of Eugene. Dan began working at the OPP in 2004 as the Manager of the Rock District and as a climbing/rescue instructor. Dan loves going on adventures around the world with his wife Janiece, and three kids in his free time.

Kristin Gloystein – Coordinator of Rock Climbing and Instructor
From: Novato, California
Responsibilities: Kristin oversees the programming and open recreation components of the indoor climbing wall in the Student Recreation center, and teaches in the OPP. Her focus is on leadership development, climbing and rescue courses, and our wilderness medicine program.
Background: Kristin grew up rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and backpacking with her family on adventures around the Western US. It was not until she joined the OPP as a student that she discovered and fell in love with rock climbing. Kristin is an alumnus of the University of Oregon, having received a degree in Environmental Studies. She has managed several university climbing walls and has a background in adaptive climbing and inclusive recreation. She moved to the South to complete her master’s degree in Higher Education Policy Studies where she lead rock climbing, sea kayaking, backpacking, surfing, mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding, and many other types of trips. Kristin loves introducing people to outdoor recreation and hopes to instill the value of the wild and natural places in which it takes place.

Anne Borland – Senior Instructor 1
From: originally from Houston and Philadelphia but an Oregonian since 1986
Responsibilities: Anne teaches Rock Climbing 1, Bouldering, and Climbing Fitness at our indoor climbing wall, as well as Backpacking, Back-country Navigation, Swift-water Safety, SUP, Sailing, and Snow Camping.
Background: Anne is a professional outdoor educator and guide, freelance photographer and graphic designer. She has degrees in telecommunications and film, graphic design and outdoor leadership. She is also professionally certified in many outdoor fields including skiing, sailing, whitewater rescue, and wilderness medicine. Anne also has a passion and appreciation for traveling simply. She loves to wander the globe capturing the beauty while learning and experiencing more about our world.

Andreas Rossberg – Instructor
From: A native Oregonian since 1970
Responsibilities: Andreas teaches Rock Climbing 1, Climbing Fitness, and Bouldering at the indoor climbing wall.
Background: In 1995, Andreas was introduced to rock climbing during a weekend trip to Smith Rock State Park. For the next seven years, he spent his winters skiing and working as a ski patroller and his summers climbing in the western US and Canada. Pushing for more difficult grades took a back seat to climbing classic sport and traditional routes as he made his annual solo circuit – starting in the south in April, moving inland in June, and finally northward to Canada before returning to Oregon in September. Andreas lives in Eugene with his wife and can still be found patrolling the slopes of Willamette Pass in the winters and climbing in the summers. In his spare time, he teaches biology at LCC and rigs for concerts and other events around the state.

Dustin Dawson – Instructor
From: Santa Cruz mountains, California
Responsibilities: Dustin teaches Back-country Cuisine in Fall Term.
Background: Dustin has been a part of the Outdoor Pursuits Program since 1990. He was in the very first Environmental Education class taught in the OPP program and co-instructed the course with Michael Strong the following year. Dustin’s primary job is as a middle school science teacher, and his goal in life is to get as many people addicted to learning about science and the outdoors as possible. If you catch Dustin in the backcountry, you will likely find him sitting by his backcountry stove preparing a delicious one-pot meal, or baking a delicious dessert. Yum!
