This course introduces students to the natural history of the region and develops environmental interpretation skills. The focus is on the natural history of oak/savanna, coastal old growth and western Cascades old growth ecosystems.

Course topics include: semantics and definitions, ecological concepts, teaching strategies for outdoor settings, natural history, and environmental interpretation. Emphasis is placed on using a taxanomic key to identify native trees and shrubs .
